Read MoreEternal God,
you alone are the Alpha and the Omega;
the one who is, and who was and who is to come.
We confess that we too often do not listen to your voice.
Instead we allow ourselves to be seduced
by the easy and vicious lies of this world.
O Lord, forgive us our sins.
Merciful God,
love us.
Free us from our sins.
Make us to be your kingdom.
Turn us toward your truth
that we might testify to it forevermore. Amen.

Here's a Prayer for Illumination for Christ the King Sunday (Year B) - November 22nd, 2015. Based on 2 Samuel 23:2-3. Written by Stephen M. Fearing.
Come, Spirit of the Lord, and speak through us.
Send your Holy Word to be upon our tongues
and your gospel upon our hearts.
Speak to us, speak through us, speak among us,
for we, your servants, are listening. Amen.

Here's an Assurance of Pardon for Christ the King Sunday (Year B) - November 22nd, 2015. Based on John 18:33-37. Written by Stephen M. Fearing.
We have done wrong to God our king
but the good news of the gospel is this:
God has chosen mercy over vengeance.
Together, through the waters of our baptism,
we have been cleansed of our sin
and are redeemed as beloved servants of a merciful King.
Alleluia! Amen!

Here's a Prayer of Confession for Christ the King Sunday (Year B) - November 22nd, 2015. Based on John 18:33-37. Written by Stephen M. Fearing.
You, God, are our one and only King.
We beg your forgiveness for the other “kings” that we kneel before:
money…
power…
gossip…
self righteousness…
racial privilege…
We beg your forgiveness, we who are broken and torn apart
by our own doings and un-doings.
Guide us to be your servants.
Lead us to trust in you as the only king we need.
Direct our faith in your sovereign power
as we strive to follow your Son,
through the power of your Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.

Here's a Call to Confession for Christ the King Sunday (Year B) - November 22nd, 2015. Written by Stephen M. Fearing.
Come, people of God, let us confess our sins.
Let us confess how we have fallen short of God’s plans for us.
Come, to the font to be redeemed.
Let us come to the waters of our baptism to be cleansed.

Here's a Call to Worship for Christ the King Sunday (Year B) - November 22nd, 2015. Based on Psalm 132. Written by Stephen M. Fearing.
God has said: “This is my resting place forever,
Here I will reside, for I have desired it."
The Lord has chosen us; God desires to live among us.
We are blessed to have God call us home.
With God among us, we will be clothed with salvation;
The faithful will shout for joy!
With a faithful shout, we proclaim Christ our King!
May the corners of the earth hear our cry:
Jesus Christ is our King!
Come let us worship our one and only Savior!

I stumbled across this today and I absolutely LOVE it! Far too often, liturgy is assumed to be a one-way street. This confession from the Iona community in Scotland embraces the mutuality between liturgist and congregation. We are ALL in this together! Amen!
Before God, with the people of God, I confess to my brokenness:
To the ways I wound my life, the lives of others and the life of the world
May God forgive you, Christ renew you,
and the Spirit enable you to grow in love.
Amen.
